Go ahead for Go-Kart track
Apr 1 2010 by Neil Elkes, Birmingham Mail
A GO karting track is off and running after receiving the green light from Birmingham planners.
Formula 1 Karting was handed the all-clear to turn an empty industrial unit in Lifford Lane, Kings Norton into a go-kart construction, repair and racing centre at a meeting yesterday.
But the city's planning committee decided the facility must close at 10pm each night.
The decision was made following objections from nearby residents who claimed the engine noise from the karts would be unbearable.
The owners of the unit had wanted to open until 11pm.
But Coun Bill Evans (Con, Bournville) urged panel members to consider the needs of families living in the area who did not want to be subjected to late-night noise from kart drivers.

Hazelwell Park 11th March 2010

The openning of the play area

At around 4pm on Thursday 11th March around 40 Stirchley residents and their children met by the new play equipment in Hazelwell park.
Councilor Nigel Dawkins arranged, at short notice, an official opening ceremony to celebrate the new play equipment.
There were members of Stirchley Neighbourhood Forum & Jon Price the chairman of Friends of Hazelwell Park.
But the real stars of the day were the children, who made the most of the new climbing area and swings as soon as they could, it was obvious from the start that this is going to be very popular. photos by Peter Walker click here
