Labour cancels Stirchley baths funding.
Councillor Rob Sealey said, "It is shocking to hear that the first major action taken by the leader of the Labour group Sir Albert Bore as leader of the City of Birmingham has been to instruct the Chief Executive to cancel the contract for the funding of the regeneration of the former Stirchley baths building into a new community centre for Stirchley".

Labour win for Bournville ward
By Dave Harte May 4, 2012
Labour’s Phil Walkling is Bournville’s newest local councillor after defeating Nigel Dawkins with a majority of 307 in the local elections. The result comes on a night when Labour have gained overall control of Birmingham City Council.
Council too quick to condemn Stirchley Baths, says B'ham MP
Neil Elkes Apr 30 2012
A Birmingham MP has accused the city council of ‘indecent haste’ in pushing through plans for the £4 million conversion of a former swimming pool at Stirchley into offices and a community centre.
Labour Selly Oak MP Steve McCabe believes the council pushed through the plans for Stirchley Baths on the eve of election when the costs of the project will most likely fall on the expected incoming Labour administration.

£5,000 fund to help celebrate the Diamond Jubilee
To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, your local councillors have created a Bournville Ward Diamond Jubilee Fund with £5,000.
This fund will be used to support special events taking place in the Bournville, Cotteridge and Stirchley area over the June Bank Holiday.
We would like to invite groups to apply directly to us for some of this money to help them fund their public,
family-orientated, Diamond Jubilee celebration events.
We would anticipate many of these events would be centred around our local parks or as street parties on either 2, 3, 4 or 5 June 2012.
Councillor Nigel Dawkins said' We want to make it as easy as possible for groups in the area to gain helpful funding so that they can concentrate all their efforts on organising great Jubilee events.
Get your thinking caps on please!
Councillor Nigel Dawkins.

Stirchley Baths restoration
The Restoration has been guaranteed by a £3.5 million loan from the city council.
For many years the regeneration plans for Stirchley being pursued by the local councillors have been dependent upon being funded by the sale of council land in Stirchley to TESCO so that TESCO could acquire a site large enough to build their new supermarket.
By guaranteeing the £3.5 million the city council has ensured that the centrepiece of Stirchley’s regeneration, the conversation of the old Stirchley Baths, can begin immediately.
Councillor Nigel Dawkins said, ‘This is a wonderful act of commitment by the council. They realise that Stirchley has waited long enough to see this site restored. We are confident that TESCO will eventually clear all of the legal hurdles but this loan means that this restoration work can begin immediately and ensures that within 12 months Stirchley residents will have a community centre they can be proud of.’
